Arturo Flores Miranda : Our Angel in
Music and Spirit
Arturo was born in Lima Peru, April
29th 1973. At the age of three he
traveled with his mother and siblings
to Trujillo, then Pallasca, a small
town in the high mountains of
Ancash Peru. His interest and love
for playing music began at the tender
age of seven, when he began making
quenas (bamboo flutes) out of reed
sticks and plastic tubes. His innate
talents lead him to continue his skills
through out his school days. In 1984
he and his family left Pallasca for
Lima, where his musical talents
flourished, studying for short period
at the National School of Folklore
Jose Maria Arguedas, and playing
quena, charango (small Andean
guitar) and zampoñas (panpipes)
through out the city in plazas, buses,
many public venues. He was
discovered by a well – known
Peruvian band Los Gaitan Castro
where he not only played the quena,
but also became the staple for most
of there compositions. His sounds are
now the back bone to famous
Peruvian songs such as Amor Amor
and El Peru Nacio Serrano. After
three years touring the country he
took the opportunity to travel to the
US where he excelled in the Peruvian
musical community across the
country. His ultimate“home away
from home” became Astoria Queens
in NYC. He has recorded two CDs
with musical talent Jose Mesa,
creating their name Pachacamac and
has recorded numerous tracks with
Peruvian groups such as Grupo
Wayno, Agua Clara, Inca Son to
name a few. He has been recognized
by many groups and wide audiences
for his unique sound, one that is
heartfelt and impossible to imitate.
The subways and streets of New
York City have been accompanied by
his music, his immeasurable talents
for over ten years. Arturo gave his
talents selflessly, engaging not only in
his high scaled technique but most
importantly through his incredible
spirit. He is the ultimate
representation of a true innately
talented musician, a proud Peruvian
and most of all an amazing human
being.
